International orientation

Vice-Rector’s Office for Internationalisation, Mobility and International Projection(VIMIP), aware not only of the global phenomenology, which affects us directly or indirectly, but also of the need to build this mentality locally, develops strategies to consolidate the external-internal binomial. In this sense, it is structured in three sections: mobility, international campus and cooperation.

From the Mobility Management Department, with the motto (Anytime, Anywhere), aims to facilitate mobility in both directions (outgoing/incoming) for students, teachers and administrative staff, making procedures more flexible to allow a wider range of countries and dates of travel according to programmes (Erasmus+, SICUE, Fullbright, etc.). Seeking solutions that allow access to grants and institutions of recognised prestige or the attraction of researchers to the ULPGC through its own programmes. The directorate coordinates transversally with the Vice-Rector’s Office for Students, Alumni and Employability and the Vice-Rector’s Office for Teaching Staff, Academic Planning and Educational Innovation, as well as with the student associations AEGEE and the future ESN based in Las Palmas de GC

The International Campus Management, with the motto Building Bridges, proposes, on the one hand, a continental structure for international relations, which covers, among other issues, international academic relations, language policies and support for diplomatic relations. It is worth highlighting of the DIRUE into the current Unit for Relations with the European Union; the creation of the Unit for Relations with Africa as a university counterpart to the institution of Casa África; and the consolidation of the Confucius Institute of Changchun Normal University, the King Sejong Institute and relations with the Japan Foundation, as the basis of the Unit for Relations with Asia. It also incorporates the four UNESCO Chairs of the University. The department coordinates with the Vice-Rector’s Office for Undergraduate, Postgraduate and New Degrees in the university’s language policy and the Vice-Rector’s Office for Culture, Sport and Campus Social Activation in the organisation of events such as International Weeks, which are aimed at internationalisation at home, with the support of the consular corps present in the archipelago. Finally, a Hospitality Management Programme and an International Academic Excellence Programme have been set up.

The Cooperation Directorate, under the motto Creating Consciences, has reconfigured a technical and administrative support unit for institutional leadership and/or participation in international cooperation projects (Interreg-MAC programme, financed with ERDF funds); or capacity building (Erasmus+ Capacity Building programme), among others. The international volunteering programme, an initiative that will promote the pro-active action of students, lecturers and administrative staff, is also being restarted. The directorate coordinates with the Vice-Rector’s Office for Research and Transfer for the transversal management of research/cooperation projects. Finally, the directorate develops local awareness-raising work with the support of island administrative institutions as part of its strategic outreach initiatives.
