The University Network of North West Africa and the Macaronesia holds a virtual conference

The UNWAM Network celebrates its 2020 Congress online under the title “UNWAM: present and future in times of COVID-19”. The congress is organized by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and will be held on Thursday 26th November with the presence of the members of the Universities that constitute the Network of Northwest Africa and Macaronesia (UNWAM).

This meeting will take stock of the unprecedentedly difficult situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and its strong impact on these regions, and will discuss recovery solutions for a specific response to the crisis.

The participation of the Director of SEPIE-Spanish Service for the Internationalisation of Education-, Coral Martínez Íscar, has also been confirmed, with a presentation on ‘The Erasmus+ programme in the context of the situation of Covid-19: present and future’.

This network of Universities of Northwest Africa and the Macaronesia was constituted in December 2017 at the initiative of the ULPGC, with the aim of intensifying the internationalisation of the Northwest Africa area through a global network of partners. Its objective is also for worldwide institutions and organisations to perceive this geographical area as an active and truly internationalised academic environment.

In 2019, the third of its meetings was held in Mauritania, where issues related to joint degrees, doctoral programmes and lifelong learning were discussed.
